The Anatomy of Ease
Meet Anna Collins: Finding the Stillness Within the Movement
Anna Collins's life has been a symphony of movement. Trained at Canada’s National Ballet School and the American Ballet Theatre, her career has gracefully pirouetted from the ballet stage to choreographing for stars like Olivia Rodrigo, and modeling for luxury houses like Gucci. This journey through the heights of performance art has led her to a more profound purpose: the creation of sanctuary through movement.
Today, Anna is the founder of FOLM, a Pilates studio that embodies her evolution from performer to guide. "Ballet was my first love, but it could feel toxic with how extreme the industry is," she reflects. "As I get older, I seek peace and comfort. Pilates felt like a safe space for my body to recall its ballet principles while being in a meditative state."
This pursuit of a "safe space" is central to her mission. Having witnessed the self-criticism in the arts, Anna was determined to build its antithesis. "The most rewarding aspect is creating a warm, loving environment where women can move without feeling judged," she shares. "Seeing people seek FOLM as a place to unwind is beautiful."
For Anna, true "relaxation" is an active practice. "It means feeling at peace, my thoughts passing by like I'm watching TV. It's about releasing negative thoughts and being with those I love." This philosophy informs everything, from her teaching to her collaborations. She seeks the same qualities in clothing: "I look for flexibility and flow. I need the freedom to live, teach, and move with no restraint."
Her inspiration is deeply tied to music, which she meticulously curates for her classes. "The entire mood and energy can shift with the perfect song," she notes. Through it all, the core value she wishes to impart is clear: "I want everyone to feel authenticity and safety. I want people to feel supported in becoming their highest self."
In the quiet focus of the studio, the high drama of the stage finds its resolution. The relentless pursuit of perfection gracefully yields to a more profound practice: the art of being at home in one's own skin.
This is the final, elegant movement in Anna Collins's ongoing dance—a gentle invitation to us all to find our own stillness within the motion.
